WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Fordham graduate student Joey Donnelly and Saint Joseph’s senior Joey Pagano as its Under Armour Baseball Co-Players of the Week. Dayton junior John Delgado was named Pitcher of the Week and Richmond freshman Evan Wilson captured Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played from April 20-26.
Donnelly slashed .478/.520/.870 on the week with three doubles, two home runs, seven RBIs, and two stolen bases. The Alamo, Calif. native helped Fordham go 4-1 across five games, opening the week by going 3-for-5 with a home run and three RBI against Fairfield. Donnelly followed that performance up with a big showing against Iona, before leading the Rams to a series opening win over George Mason with a double and RBI. He went 4-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI in the series finale victory over the Patriots.
Pagano piled up the stats as the Hawks went 4-1 last week, including a win in the title game of the Liberty Bell Classic and a weekend sweep against La Salle. The outfielder from Ridgewood, N.J. slashed .429/.556/.810 across five games, starting with a two-hit performance with two stolen bases against Penn at Citizens Bank Park. Pagano’s strongest game came in the second leg of a Friday doubleheader with La Salle, racking up four hits – three doubles and a home run – while driving in seven RBIs. He scored three runs in the series finale after getting on base frequently, drawing three walks.
Delgado dominated in his lone appearance on the mound last week, contributing Dayton’s first complete game of the season in an 8-0 win over St. Bonaventure. The left-handed pitcher from Westminster, Md. pitched 7.0 innings, allowing just two hits and three walks. Delgado struck out nine batters, going all seven frames without surrendering a run.
Wilson shined as a two-way player last week, excelling in the batter’s box and on the mound. Offensively, the outfielder from Lancaster, Pa. slashed .333/.385/.750 against VCU, racking up four hits, two runs scored, two doubles and one home run. As a reliever, Wilson collected his first collegiate win in just under two innings of action.
