WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed Saint Joseph’s sophomore Blake Primrose as its Under Armour Baseball Player of the Week and St. Bonaventure senior David James was named Pitcher of the Week. Richmond freshman David Schaller captured Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Tuesday and are for games played from March 30 – April 5.
Primrose hit .563 across four games with an impressive 1.963 OPS, recording nine hits, scored nine times, and driving in nine runs. After going 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored in a midweek win over Lehigh that put the Hawks into the semifinals of the Liberty Bell Classic, the catcher from Pittsburgh hit Saint Louis for eight hits across three games. He hit a home run in each contest, including a game-tying long ball in the seventh inning on Friday and a first-inning blast to give the Hawks the lead they would never relinquish in the series finale on Saturday.
James tossed a complete game shutout in a Thursday victory to open the series against George Washington. The right-hander from London, Ontario allowed only five singles while walking one and fanning six. It was the first career complete-game shutout for James, and the first nine-inning complete-game shutout by an A-10 pitcher this season. James lowered his season ERA to 2.47.
Schaller slashed .417/.500/1.083 in three starts in center field against La Salle. The Garnet Valley, Pa., native went 5-for-12 with two runs scored, three doubles, a triple and a three-run home run in Saturday's game, also his birthday.
