George Mason, Loyola Chicago, Rhode Island, and Duquesne Earn Under Armour Weekly Indoor Track & Field Awards

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 announced the Under Armour Outdoor Track & Field Weekly awards on Wednesday for meets from March 23-29. Loyola Chicago’s Nate Boutin was named Men’s Track Performer of the Week, while George Mason’s Walt Bannerman earned Men’s Field Performer of the Week honors. Rhode Island freshman Elias Sposato received the Men’s Rookie of the Week accolade.

George Mason’s Ella Sample was named Women’s Track Performer of the Week, while her teammate Abby Weening was selected as the Women’s Field Performer of the Week. Duquesne freshman Melani Schmidt was named Women’s Rookie of the Week.

Boutin, a Brooklyn, N.Y. native, broke Loyola’s men’s 3,000 meter steeplechase record at the Raleigh Relays. The junior won his heat and shattered the program record, clocking a personal-best 8:45.43 to lower his previous mark by 13 seconds. His time ranks 12th in the NCAA and first in the A-10.

Bannerman, a junior from Durham, N.C., placed third in the men’s pole vault invitational at the Raleigh Relays, clearing a season-best height of 5.27m. His mark ranks atop the Atlantic 10 and 17th in Division I.
Sposato also competed at the Raleigh Relays, finishing 19th in the 400 meters in 47.27 seconds. A sophomore from Westerly, R.I., Sposato’s time ranks second in the conference.

Semple put together a dominant performance in the 5,000 meters at the Raleigh Relays, finishing 17th in a field of over 200 student-athletes with a time of 15:58.44. A graduate student from Lichfield, U.K., Semple’s time leads the A-10 this season and ranks 12th in Division I – marking the only sub-16 minute mark in the event in George Mason’s history.

Weening excelled at the Raleigh Relays as well, finishing 12th in the high jump by clearing 1.72m. The Barrie, Ontario native’s mark stands atop the A-10 and ranks 41st in the nation.

Schmidt earned her first collegiate victories over the weekend, winning the 200 meters in 25.00 seconds and the 400 meters in 56.59 seconds. The freshman from North Huntingdon, Pa. also ran the opening leg of the 4x100-meter relay that placed second in 47.76 seconds.
