Treahy Named Under Armour Volleyball Player of the Week; Holderied, Molnau Take Defensive, Rookie Accolades
WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named George Washington sophomore Taylor Treahy its Under Armour Volleyball Player of the Week. Fordham junior Tatum Holderied was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week and Loyola Chicago freshman Karli Molnau was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played from September 8-14.
Across three wins over the course of the weekend, Treahy racked up 37 kills on a .478 hitting percentage with nine blocks and seven digs. She averaged 3.70 kills and 4.45 points per set, making the most of the Revolutionaries’ 10 sets. Treahy produced 19 kills on 39 attempts in a four-set victory over UMBC on Friday, adding five digs and five blocks. She posted 10 kills, one dig, and one block in a three-set sweep the next day against Loyola Maryland, before finishing the weekend with eight kills and three blocks to sweep Morgan State on Sunday.
Holderied continued her blistering start to the season, picking up her second defensive accolade after another ferocious week at the net. Holderied averaged 2.55 blocks per set over three home matches, racking up 27 blocks to pace the Rams. The middle blocker from Fairfield, Conn. produced seven blocks in a three-set sweep over FDU on Friday, before adding 10 blocks and two digs in a four-set loss to Hofstra. She finished the weekend with 11 blocks in a loss to Temple, committing zero block errors. Holderied currently leads all of Division I volleyball with 2.24 blocks per set this season.
Molnau, a middle blocker/outside hitter, continued her strong freshman campaign by making an impact in all three matchups of the weekend for Loyola Chicago, averaging 3.18 kills per set at an efficient .443 hitting percentage, adding nine digs and nine total blocks to her totals. Molnau accumulated a season-best 13 kills to help the Ramblers sweep Stephen F. Austin, contributing four digs and three total blocks as well. The Brookfield, Wis. native recorded nine kills on 20 swings with three blocks and four digs against Indiana, concluding the weekend with 13 kills and three blocks against Bowling Green.
