BRONX, N.Y. – Fifth-seeded Saint Joseph’s scored twice in the first half to earn a road win over No. 4 Fordham, 2-1, in the Atlantic 10 Women’s Soccer semifinals Friday night at Moglia Stadium at Jack Coffey Field.

The Hawks (8-3-7) advance to Wednesday’s semifinals where their opponent is yet to be determined. The A-10 will re-seed the eight-team tournament after the quarterfinals conclude Saturday.

The match was fairly even, with the Rams holding a 17-10 edge on shots, but only a 8-7 advantage on shots on goal. Corners were 4-3 in favor of Fordham, and SJU led in saves, 7-5, with both teams generating quality chances.

Saint Joseph’s scored in the 24th minute, scoring in transition on a well-timed pass from Sarah Fisher that caught a streaking Emily Hanrahan in stride ahead of the defense, giving her a wide open look at the goal. The transition play was initially setup by Natalie Nevins, who also earned an assist.

Chloe Khelil’s unassisted tally made the score 2-0 in the 40th minute with a monster 60-yard free kick that got past Fordham keeper Kyla King with a tricky bounce 10 yards from the goal.

Fordham (10-5-4) pressured heavily on the offensive end, with eight first-half shots and nine in the second half, but SJU kept the Rams scoreless until the final ticks of the game when Riley Carroll spoiled the Katie Cappelletti clean sheet with a goal following a feed from Ryann Lucas.

Hanrahan had two shots, both on goal, and Jayda Shehadi fired three shots, two on net for Saint Joseph’s. Cappelletti faced 17 shots, making all seven of the SJU saves.

Fordham’s Julia Acosta provided constant pressure for the Rams with seven shots, two on net while Carroll took four shots, three on goal. King faced 10 shots, making five saves.
