A-10 Track & Field Weekly Honors Awarded to VCU, Davidson, Saint Joseph's, Dayton and Rhody

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference selected Davidson junior Jayden Smith as the league’s Men's Track Performer of the Week and Saint Joseph’s senior Patrick Fehm as the Men's Field Performer. VCU earned both women’s honors as senior Simone Pierre was named the Track Performer of the Week and Gudrun Hallgrimsdottir was selected as the Field Performer of the Week.
 
Rookie of the Week laurels went to Rhode Island’s Nate Shultz on the men’s side and Dayton’s Kendall Johnson on the women’s side. The awards were announced Tuesday following the conclusion of the previous week of meets, slated between January 16-22.
 
Smith, a native of Richmond, Va., won the 60 Hurdles at the Carolina Challenge with a 7.82 time. The winning mark ranks as the best time in the Atlantic 10 this season and 31st> nationally. It marks his best time since the 2023 Atlantic 10 Indoor Track & Field Championships.
 
Fehm, a Philadelphia, Pa. native, took first place in the high jump at the Moravian Invitational, clearing the bar at 6'8 3/4" (2.05m), only an inch shy of a personal record. This is the top mark in the Atlantic 10 this season.
 
Pierre won the 400m at the Brant Tolsma Invitational at Liberty and finished third in the 200m. The New Orleans, LA native ran the 400 meters in 56.17 to finish first out of 24 runners, the top time turned in by an Atlantic 10 performer this year. Her 200 meters time of 24.66 stands second in the Atlantic 10 this season.
 
Hallgrimsdottir, a Hvanneyri, Iceland native, won the weight throw at the Brant Tolsma Invitational, with a mark of 21.83m/71' 7.5", the best mark in the Atlantic 10 this season by a good margin and good for 10th nationally. Hallgrimsdottir’s throw was not only the best in her event this weekend, but the third-best nationally over that time span, only trailing athletes from Minnesota and Illinois.
 
Schultz, a native of North Attleboro, Mass. claimed first in the long jump with a leap of 23' 6.75" at the Rhode Island Invitational, the second-best time in the Atlantic 10 this season and the best by a freshman.
 
Johnson, hailing from Tulsa, Okla, set the school record in her first collegiate long jump event with her 5.87m jump at the Indiana Invitational on Friday, good for a fourth-place finish and the best long jump in the Atlantic 10 this season. The freshman also set the second-best 4x400m relay time in Dayton history with her squad’s time of 3:53.71,  the second-best time in the A-10 this season, and a top-100 time nationally for the event.
