A-10 Announces Track & Field Weekly Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Saint Joseph’s senior Kyle Magee and Richmond senior Rachel Helbling have been named the Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s and Women’s Track Performers of the Week, while George Mason graduate student Jaylen Simmons and junior Hannah Robertson earned Men’s and Women’s Field Performers of the Week honors. VCU’s David Cole and Davidson’s Aleia Grisolfi-McCready earned Men’s and Women’s Rookie of the Week, respectively.  The awards were announced Tuesday and are for events held Jan. 24-Jan. 30. 

Magee, a native of Chalfont, Pa., currently leads the Atlantic 10 in the men's 500 meters, dropping 1.2 seconds off his previous time to a personal record in this event, and hitting the IC4A qualifying standard. He was also a member of the 4x400 meter relay that currently leads the Atlantic 10 and took first at the Great Dane Classic, splitting a 48.66 for his leg of the relay.

Helbling, competed in the John Thomas Terrier Classic at Boston University Friday, picking up a first-place finish in the 500 meter run and a slew of noteworthy accolades. The McDonald, Pa., native marked a 1:11.82 time, breaking her own program record from the 2020 ECAC/IC4A Championship Meet, and currently ranks fourth in the world, and first in the U.S., NCAA, and the Atlantic 10. 

Simmons, a native of Waynesboro, Va., broke his own school record in the weight throw at the Patriot Games with a personal record of 20.30m. The mark ranks second in the A-10 and 39th in the country. He also posted a season-best mark of 17.63m in the shot put for first in the event and leading the conference. His performance this week marks the third straight weekend he’s swept the top spot in both events.

Robertson, finished second in the pole vault at the Patriot Games with a season-best height of 3.77m. The Springfield, Va., native currently leads the conference in the event. 

Cole, who hails from Alexandria, Va., placed second in the triple jump at the South Carolina Invitational with a personal-best jump of 14.62m, moving him to fifth on VCU’s all-time list.

Grisolfi-McCready, a native of Lexington, Mass., earned her second career win in the 500 meter at the Patriot Games. She ran a personal best 1:16.48 at the event.
