ORLANDO - The second-seeded Richmond Spiders fought off the seventh-seeded Fordham Rams in the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Conference Men's Tennis Championship, held at the USTA National Campus.
Fordham struck first in doubles play as Max Green and Finn Kemper netted a 6-4 decision at No. 2 against George Lovitt and John Walsh. Richmond's top pair of Matthew Fernandez and Joshua Keitelman would even the score on their court, before Campbell Erwin and Klein Evans clinched the opening point with a 7-5 victory at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Erwin continued the momentum for the Spiders, taking straight sets on the No. 5 court for a 2-0 Spider advantage. Fordham's Fabian Mauritzson would earn the Rams' lone point, finishing next in the top spot, defeating Matthew Fernandez 7-6, 6-2.
With three of the four remaining courts splitting sets, the Spiders extended their lead behind Joseph Nardini at No. 6 (6-2, 2-6, 6-2). In a similar fashion, John Walsh won his first and third sets, 6-3, to defeat Finn Kemper and seal the victory for Richmond, 4-1.
With the victory, the Spiders advance to the semifinals and will face the winner of Davidson/La Salle.

ORLANDO - The third-seeded Davidson Wildcats swept the eleventh-seeded Explorers, 4-0, in Friday's quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship, held at the USTA National Campus.
Davidson netted a pair of doubles victories to earn the opening point of the match. First, Doug Macintosh and Camden Mazzoni cruised to a 6-2 victory at No. 3 doubles, before Matthew Rose and Yash Parikh won by the same score on court two.
The 'Cats took first-set wins on courts two through five, while Francesco Mowrey took his first set for the Explorers, along with Colin Lucius' tiebreaker. Parikh would strike first in singles playing, recording a 6-0, 6-2 decision at No. 2 singles. Mazzoni finished not long after on court five in straight sets (6-1, 6-1) before the match was clinched by Sam Kavarana at No. 3 singles, 6-0, 6-3.
With the win, the Wildcats advance to the semifinals and will face No. 2 Richmond on Saturday at 10 AM.
