Spiders’ Burdell Wins A10 Men’s Tennis Masters Singles Trophy; Davidson Duo Captures Doubles Title

DAVIDSON – Richmond’s Charlie Burdell won the Atlantic 10 Men’s Tennis Masters singles title on Sunday at Davidson College, as Davidson duo Davide Procacci and Kai Villagomez captured the doubles title.
 
The three student-athletes advance in their respective categories to the ITA Conference Masters as Atlantic 10 representatives, with an opportunity to reach the NCAA Individual Championship. The tournament marked the third year of the individual Masters event.
 
Burdell did not have a first round bye, but he sped through the bracket regardless, starting with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Duquesne’s Aril Kayra Tuna. The Atlanta native beat Fordham’s Victor Kimpel 6-3, 7-6 (6) in the quarterfinals and VCU’s Patrik Petera 6-2, 6-3 in the semifinals. Facing Davidson’s Gregoria Hidalgo in the championship match, Burdell pulled out a 7-5, 6-7 (4), 7-5 victory.
 
Procacci and Villagomez narrowly survived in the doubles quarterfinals, taking down Saint Joseph’s Ernesto Ruy and Oscar Baumgartner 9-8 (2). The pair cruised past VCU’s Jakub Volesky and Erwann Bouchet 8-3 to clinch a spot in the title match, where the Wildcat duo defeated Fordham’s Victor Kimpel and Zachary Pellouchoud 2-6, 6-4, 10-3.
 
The ITA Conference Masters Championships will take place November 5-8, 2026 at the Rome Tennis Center in Rome, Ga.
