NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Davidson’s Hattie Rodriguez was named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Player of the Week, while Fordham’s Morgan Williams was named Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Dayton’s Amelia Moore and Duquesne’s Ashley Larson shared Rookie of the Week accolades. The awards are for matches played Oct. 28-Nov. 3.
Rodriguez totaled 39 kills and nearly five per set (4.88) over two games for the Wildcats this weekend. The sophomore from Charlotte, N.C., turned in a career-best 22 kills against George Washington Friday, then 17 versus George Mason Sunday. She hit .333 for the weekend as the Wildcats went 1-1.
Against Duquesne and La Salle, Williams tallied 68 total digs, good for 7.56 per set, her sixth and seventh 30-dig matches of the year, and breaking the record for the most digs in a single season in Fordham history, surpassing the 500-dig summit, a new first for the program. The senior libero from Los Angeles finished the weekend with 536 digs on the year and 6.09 per set, both top-10 numbers in the country and program records by a mile.
Moore was a tenacious blocker for the Dayton defense this past week averaging 1.75 blocks per set as the Flyers split the week. On Wednesday, she tallied a career-high eight blocks (2 solo, 6 assisted) to go with six kills and a .500 hitting percentage in a 3-1 loss at Cincinnati. Moore followed that with six blocks and seven kills in UD's 3-1 win over Saint Louis at home on Friday. For the week, she averaged 2.75 points per set and posted a .417 hitting percentage.
Larson came within one dig of tying the Duquesne school record for digs in a four-set match against Fordham this weekend with 30 (7.5 per set). The freshman from Highlands Ranch, Colo., posted 22 digs against Rhode Island for 52 on the weekend and an average of 7.43.
