ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 1 VCU was victorious over No. 5 Richmond 4-2 in Saturday’s semifinal match at the USTA National Campus. With the win, the Rams will face No. 6 Massachusets Sunday at 1:00 pm, at the A-10 Women’s Tennis Championship in a rematch of last year’s championship.
Noumea Witmus and Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado defeated the Spiders pairing of Lyndell Giffenig and Adrienne Haynes by a score of 6-2 on doubles court No. 2. Richmond responded with a doubles win of their own when Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall turned away Anna Rasmussen and Kanako Yano, 6-2. In the third and final doubles match, Marina Alcaide Bakkari and Sofia Sualehe edged Dessi Zlateva and Lea Owens, 6-4 to take an early 1-0 match lead.
With Richmond holding a 2-1 advantage after victories on the No.1 and No. 6 courts, Yano recorded a 6-4, 7-5, victory over Gaby Rosales to even the score. Witmus needed three sets to dispatch Owens (6-4, 6-7(4), 6-2) in No. 4 singles. Diaz-Delgado notched the game-clinching point on the No. 2 court with a 6-7(6), 6-1, 6-2 victory.

ORLANDO, Fla.—Sixth-seeded Massachusets advanced to Sunday’s championship round with a 4-2 win over No. 2 George Washington at the USTA National Campus on Saturday.
Ana Yrazusta and Anna Napadiy claimed doubles court No. 3 by turning away Sara Grubac and Julia Herlogsson (6-0). GW responded with a doubles win of their own when Maria Siopacha and Melis Bayraktaroglu were victorious over Laura Moreno and Ruth Crawford at No. 1. Janja Kovacevic and Martina Bocchi clinched the match for the Minutewomen by notching a 6-2 win on court No..2.
The Colonials evened the score at one when Kussainova claimed singles court No. 6 over Bocchi. After GW and UMass traded wins on courts four and five, Yrazusta gave Massachusetts a 3-2 advantage by taking down Bayraktaroglu on court No. 2. In a three-set match, Kovacevic rallied after dropping the first set to Grubac, to win the next two, 6-3, 6-3 to send the defending champion Minutewomen back to the championship round for the second straight year in a rematch against the Rams.
Massachusetts advances to Sunday’s Championship final, where they’ll look to repeat as A-10 Women’s Tennis Champions and play No. 1 seed VCU. Tomorrow’s championship game will be played at 1:00 pm and be streamed on the USTA YouTube channel.
