ORLANDO, Fla. – No. 1 VCU was victorious over No. 5 Richmond 4-1 in Saturday’s semifinal match at the USTA National Campus. With the win, the Rams will face No. 3 Dayton Sunday at 10:00 am, at the A-10 Men’s Tennis Championship.
Philip Mobius and Ignacio Rivero Crespo struck first for the Rams with their 6-3 victory over Matthew Fernandez and George Lovitt on the No. 3 court. Inigo Torre Martin and Arvid Noren followed their teammate’s victory with a win of their own on the No. 2 doubles court with a 6-1 win over Brice Polender and Klein Evans.
Rivero Crespo followed his doubles victory with a win in No. 6 singles when he defeated Joseph Nardini, 6-2, 6-0. James Aronson got the Spiders on the board when he was victorious over Mobius, 6-2, 6-3. Vitor Lima responded for VCU on the No. 2 singles court, defeating Fernandez, 6-2, 6-3. Clinching the match for the Rams was Noren, who dispatched Caleb Troy on the No. 1 court, 6-2, 6-4.

ORLANDO, Fla.—Third-seeded Dayton advanced to Sunday's Championship with a 4-3 win over No. 2 Davidson at the USTA National Campus on Saturday.
All three doubles matchups were tightly contested, with two matches being decided in tiebreakers. Jordan Benjamin and Theo Jener won the No. 2 doubles match up with a 7-5 win over David Hager and Shamael Chaudhry. Davidson’s tandem of Artem Khrapko and Axel Fries ousted the Flyers’ No. 1 pairing of Carsten Fisher and Zach Berry 7-6(2). Lorenzo Rollhauser and Steven Karl clinched the deciding doubles point with a 7-6(8) victory.
Parikh evened the score with his No. 6 singles win over Rollhauser, 6-1, 6-2. Steven Karl responded for the Flyers, defeating Riazzi, 6-4, 6-4 on the No. 5 court. On the No. 3 court, Berry extended Dayton’s lead, 3-1, by defeating Fries, 6-3, 6-4. Chaudhry’s victory 7-6(5), 3-6, 6-4 victory over Fisher, followed by Hager’s 6-4, 6-4 victory over Jener evened the score at three. No. 1 singles players, Benjamin and Khrapko battled down to the wire in a three-set match, that saw Benjamin outlast Khrapko, 2-6, 7-6(2), 6-1.
Dayton advances to Sunday’s Championship final, where they’ll play No. 1 seed VCU. Tomorrow’s championship game will be played at 10:00 am and be streamed on the USTA YouTube channel.
