Massachusetts, Richmond Advance to Saturday's Semifinals

ORLANDO, Fla. – Sixth-seeded Massachusetts defeated No. 3 Davidson 4-0 in Friday’s quarterfinals match at the USTA National Campus. With the win, the Minutewomen will face No. 2 George Washington on Saturday at 1:00 pm, at the A-10 Women’s Tennis Championship.

The Minutewomen tandem of Ana Yrazusta and Anna Napadiy got Massachusetts off to a hot start taking the No. 3 doubles court with a 6-2 win over Sam Armas and Alyssa Hahn. Laura Moreno and Ruth Crawford kept the momentum rolling as they ousted Anna Feaster and Megan Scholvinck, 6-4.

Martina Bocchi claimed singles court No. 6 with her win over Todd, 6-1, 6-3. Dropping only four sets, Yrazusta won 6-4, 6-0 over Scholvinck. Clinching the match for the Minutewomen and sending them to Saturday’s semifinals was Janja Kovacevic who was victorious over Alexa Abele.

ORLANDO, Fla.—Fifth-seeded Richmond moves on to Saturday’s semifinals with a 4-0 win over No. 4 Duquesne at the USTA National Campus on Friday.

The Spiders pairing of Dessi Zlateva and Lea Owens led the evening off with a win on the No. 3 doubles court with a 6-0 win over Laurel Shymansky and Ally Miller. Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall followed their teammates win with one of their own by defeating Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman

Owens turned away Miller on the No. 4 singles court by a score of 6-3, 6-1. Owens’ doubles teammate, Zlateva also won her singles match, 6-3, 6-3, over Shymansky. Clinching the match point for was Gaby Rosales who defeated Maddy Adams, 6-2, 6-3.

The Spiders will face their cross-town rival, VCU, in Saturday’s semifinal matchup at 1:00 pm.
