Duquesne and Richmond Advance to Friday's Quarterfinals

ORLANDO, Fla. –  Fourth-seeded Duquesne defeated No. 13 La Salle  4-0 in Wednesday’s first match at the USTA National Campus. With the win, the Dukes will face No. 5 Richmond Friday afternoon at the A-10 Women’s Tennis Championship.

 

The Dukes earned the doubles point as Kylie Isaacs and Julianne Herman defeated Tiffany Theophil and Alison Snyder, 6-1, capturing the first court. Teammates Laurel Shymansky and Maranda Sears beat Alexandra Santarelli and Jayla Smith, 6-4 at the No. 3 spot to secure the doubles victory.

 

Isaacs didn’t drop a set against her No. 1 competitor, grabbing the first singles win for the Dukes, 6-0, 6-0. At the No. 3 spot, Laurel Shymansky bested her opponent Britany Poje, 6-0, 6-0. Clinching the match for Duquesne was Aishwarya Kona, who defeated Alexandra Santarelli, 6-0, 6-1.

ORLANDO, Fla.—Fifth-seeded Richmond earned a spot in Friday’s quarterfinals with a 4-0 win over No. 12 Rhode Island at the USTA National Campus on Wednesday.

 

Dessi Zlateya and Lea Owens struck first for the Spiders, winning 6-1 at No. 3 doubles. At No. 1, teammates Emily Dunbar and Kiana Marshall topped Mihaela Codreanu and Ariel Haber 6-1, sealing the doubles win.

 

 Ana Ramirez earned Richmond’s first singles win, 6-0, 6-3 over Paige Alshon at No. 6. Gaby Rosales followed with a 6-4, 6-0 triumph over her La Salle opponent at No. 5. Clinching the match at No. 1, Emily Dunbar had a 6-1, 6-3 decision, sending the Spiders to the quarterfinals.

 

Richmond will face No. 4 Duquesne on Friday at 3:00 pm.
