Turner, Osuchukwu Named A-10 Volleyball Co-Players of the Week

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Dayton senior Alaina Turner and George Washington junior Chidima Osuchukwu earned Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Co- Players of the Week Monday. Dayton sophomore Amber Erhahon was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week award and VCU freshman Sahbria McLetchie was also chosen as the league’s Rookie of the Week. All three awards were for matches played Sept. 14-20.

Turner, an outside hitter from Canton, Mich., led Dayton to three wins over the weekend as UD hosted the Flyer Invitational. She averaged 4.60 kills per set while hitting at .261 in Dayton’s 3-0 weekend. She recorded her fifth double-double of the season with 19 kills and 15 digs to go with four blocks in a 3-1 win over Illinois State on Friday. In back-to-back sweeps on Saturday, Turner had 13 kills, seven digs and two service aces against Jacksonville followed by 14 kills and six digs against Eastern Michigan in the nightcap. Turner also averaged 2.80 digs per set and 5.30 points per set for the weekend.

Osuchukwu earned the Player of the Week award for the fourth straight week, totaling 43 kills across four matches (3.31 per set), hitting .319 and posting 24 blocks (1.85 per set), to lead the GW volleyball team to a 3-1 week. In GW's 3-0 win over Georgetown on Wednesday, she committed just one attack error while tallying six kills and six blocks. She opened her weekend play with 12 errorless kills (hitting .571) and five blocks in a sweep of Lehigh. She followed that with 13 kills (hitting .500) and five blocks in a 3-0 win over Bowling Green. She concluded her weekend with 12 kills and eight blocks in a 3-1 loss to Pittsburgh. Osuchukwu, a middle blocker from Virginia Beach, Va., was named to the All-Tournament team at the Panther Invitational.

Erhahon averaged 1.30 blocks per set and 0.60 digs per set over three wins at UD's Flyer Invitational. A middle blocker from Albany, Calif., she recorded seven blocks to go with three digs in Dayton's 3-1 win over Illinois State on Friday. She then had an assisted block and a solo block in a sweep of Jacksonville Saturday. In Saturday's nightcap, Erhahon had four blocks and three digs against Eastern Michigan. She also hit a career-high .700 against EMU.

McLetchie, an outside hitter from San Antonio, Texas, averaged 4.13 kills per set and hit .227 to lead VCU to a 3-1 week. She was named to the All-Tournament Team at the Deacon Classic after leading the Rams to wins over Hofstra and host Wake Forest. Defensively, she recorded 13 blocks in the four matches, with six against Wake Forest and four versus Hofstra. McLetchie had 20 kills and hit .310 versus the Deacons and also tallied 12 kills in the loss to Georgia. She provided 21 kills in VCU's win over Hampton on Sept. 15, the most by a Rams' freshman since 2007.
