WACO, Texas--VCU's Cindy Chala lost her NCAA singles match to No. 4 Margan Manasse of Cal, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 Wednesday at Baylor University's Hurd Tennis Center.
It was the second time in three years, that Chala, ranked No. 64, had competed in the NCAA Singles Championship after earning the Atlantic 10's automatic berth.
Chala was named the Atlantic 10 Most Outstanding Performer for the third consecutive season. This spring, she's posted an 18-1 mark in singles action, all coming at the top spot in VCU's singles lineup. She has also beaten three ranked opponents this spring.
For her career, the St. Cloud, France, native is 45-12 in dual singles matches and 55-14 overall in singles play.
In Chala's first appearance in the singles championship, she nearly reached the round of 16, which would have guaranteed her All-American status.
