UMass, Richmond Move on to A-10 Semifinals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The third-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen (16-4) defeated the six seed, Duquesne (12-9), to advance to the semifinals of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Friday. UMass will face the winner of Richmond/Dayton in the 1:30 pm match.

The Minutewomen got off to an early start, finishing first on court one with Ana Yrazusta and Carol Benito's 26th win (8-2) of the season, a UMass record for single season victories. Courts two and three each went to a tiebreak, ending almost simultaneously in favor of UM.

UMass extended its lead when Anna Woosley took straight sets (6-1, 6-0) on court five against Ally Miller. Duquesne freshman then finished at top singles, 6-1, 7-5, over Aarzoo Malik. 

Chanel Glasper earned the third point for UM, winning 6-0, 6-3 on court six, before freshman Ana Yrazusta clinched the match on court two with her 23rd win of the year.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - The second-seeded Richmond Spiders (12-6) used a third-set tiebreaker at. No. 4 singles to halt a surging Dayton (9-10) to advance to the semifinals of the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Friday at Boar's Head. 

Richmond took the first point of the match, winning first at top doubles, then on number three doubles, both with scores of 8-5. 

The Flyers would then take two of the first three singles matches behind Jackie and Jade Kawamoto. For Richmond, Anna Abadias won a 6-3, 6-2 decision at No. 1 singles.

Alex Townsend then defeated Gaby Rosales in three sets to give Dayton a 3-2 lead. Richmond again evened the match when Mandy Marchant retired for the Flyers in the third set. 

With the match tied at three, Brittany Boys (UR) and Carly Peck (UD) battled to a third-set tiebreaker. Boys rallied from down 4-2 in the break to win the final set, 7-6(4) and the match for the Spiders. 

Richmond will face third-seeded Massachusetts on Saturday at 1:30 pm.
