Davidson, Fordham Advance to Women's Tennis Quarterfinals

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - A-10 newcomer Davidson (12-9), won its opening match of the 2015 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship, 4-1 against No. 13 St. Bonaventure (6-13) at Boar's Head Sports Club in Charlottesville, Va. 

The fourth-seeded Wildcats jumped out to an early lead, winning doubles matches on courts two and three, claiming the doubles point. In singles action, freshmen Ally Sexton and Anna Catherine Feaster each picked up straight wins at No. 6 and No. 1 singles. On court four, Mariam Skhirtladze earned Bona a point with a 6-3, 6-1 victory against Sarah Stein. The Wildcats clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-2 decision behind freshman Ava Todd.

Davidson moves on to the quarterfinals to face fifth-seeded Fordham, Friday at 10 am.

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA. - After dropping the doubles point to No. 12 Rhode Island (6-9), the fifth-seeded Fordham Rams (11-6) battled back for four consecutive singles wins to advance to the quarterfinals of the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship. 

Fordham's No.3 pair of Estelle Wong and Julie Leong picked up the first win, 8-1, quickly followed by Rhode Island's No. 2 Kathleen Uy and Nithila Asokaraj, who evened the match. The deciding point came on court one as Taylor Holden and Anna Peacock battled Elli Ball and Sarah Ali to an 8-5 decision. 

The Rams would then rattle off singles wins on courts 5, 4, 2 and 1 to finish the match, 4-1. Fordham advances to Friday's 10 am match and will face No. 4 Davidson.
