Love, Jones, Hannan, Leverenz Tabbed Volleyball Award Winners

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.— Duquesne senior Arielle Love and junior Kalah Jones  of VCU were named the Atlantic 10 Conference Volleyball Co-Players of the Week Monday. Dayton senior Isolde Hannan was named the league’s Defensive Player of the Week, and Saint Louis freshman Lauren Leverenz earned the Rookie of the Week award. The awards are for matches played during the week of Oct. 27 – Nov. 2.

Love, who also was the Co-Player of the Week last week, won her third award of the year after helping elevate Duquesne into sole possession of second place after a pair of victories over Rhode Island and Fordham. The middle hitter from Maple Heights, Ohio, had 12 kills, a .400 hitting percentage and a block against URI. She followed that with 14 kills, a .609 hitting percentage and three blocks against Fordham. It marked the fourth time she has hit over .600 this season. Love also recorded her 1,000th career kill against the Rams.

Jones produced 40 kills for an average of 4.44 per set and hit .371 in a split week for VCU. An outside hitter, Jones had an 18-kill, 10-dig double-double against league-leading Dayton. She hit .279 and had three blocks and an ace versus the Flyers. The Fayetteville, Ga., product then tallied 22 kills, hit .457 with a block in a five-set win over Saint Louis.

Hannan averaged 1.71 blocks per set and 2.29 kills per set in two wins over the weekend for the first-place Flyers. She recorded 10 blocks in a 3-1 battle at VCU on Friday. In Sunday's 3-0 win at Davidson, Hannan chipped in eight kills to go with two blocks. A middle blocker from Dublin, Ohio, Hannan also contributed 2.29 kills per set, 3.14 points per set and she hit at .448 for the weekend.

Leverenz was SLU's top hitter in two matches last week. Over the weekend, she tallied 33 kills (4.12 per set) and had a .609 attack percentage. A middle blocker, she also had seven blocks in two matches. Against Davidson on Halloween, Leverenz had 12 kills while hitting an incredible .786. The Crystal Lake, Ill., native had the first 20-kill performance of her career on Nov. 2 at VCU, garnering 21 kills and hitting .531. It’s the second rookie award this season for Leverenz, who also earned the rookie nod following the second week of play.
