Fordham Sweeps Under Armour Weekly Women’s Tennis Awards as VCU, Dayton Earn Men’s Accolades

WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed VCU sophomore Erwann Bouchet as its Under Armour Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Dayton freshman Rishi Dore was selected as Rookie of the Week. Fordham senior Nevena Kolarevic claimed the Women’s Tennis Player of the Week award and her freshman teammate Valerija Kargina earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for matches played from April 6 to April 12.
 
Bouchet held his own against a nationally-ranked opponent, providing the Rams’ lone individual victories against No. 60 Liberty. The Lyon, France native teamed up with Gevorg Mnatsakanyan for a 6-3 win at the top doubles position, before beating Siwanat Auytayakul at the No. 1 singles spot in come-from-behind fashion, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Dore put together a strong performance in Dayton’s dominant 7-0 sweep of Mercyhurst on Friday. The Springboro, Ohio native won 6-2 at the No. 2 doubles position with a 6-2 victory alongside Sturle Skigelstrand, getting the Flyers off to a quick start. He defeated Nikoa Radisic 6-0, 6-3 on Court 6 to complete a 2-0 day.
 
Kolarevic won all three of her completed matches last week, leading 5-2 in her unfinished doubles bout. The Belgrade, Serbia native played the top singles and doubles positions, starting with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Davidson’s Savanna Kollock on Saturday. After combining with teammate Julianna Nguyen for a 6-2 doubles triumph against Stony Brook, Kolarevic bested Elena Lobo-Corral 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.
 
Kargina also went 3-0 for the Rams, helping lead Fordham to a pair of 4-0 victories. The rookie from Riga, Latvia opened the weekend with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Davidson’s Ellie Hammon at the third singles slot, earning a 6-2 win at the No. 2 doubles position as well alongside Lily Chitambar. Kargina defeated Stony Brook’s Paisha Douglas 6-3, 7-5 on Court 3 the next day.
