WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized junior Nat Lesnicki as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. George Washington junior Cece Smith was named Pitcher of the Week, while Dayton Soseh Broglin freshman earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from April 6 to April 12.
Lesnicki dominated at the plate over four games for the first-place Ramblers, racking up eight hits, six RBIs, one double and a home run. The infielder from Plainfield, Ill. nearly led the Ramblers to an upset victory against Wisconsin, one of three multi-hit performances for Lesnick last week. She helped Loyola Chicago sweep Rhode Island over the weekend, capped off by a three-hit game on Sunday which included a home run.
Smith collected her third accolade of the season – and second pitching honor – by contributing to a pair of George Washington wins against Saint Joseph’s. The Atlanta native tossed 15.0 innings across two games, allowing just one earned run. Smith collected nine strikeouts, including six in a seven-inning complete game shutout.
Broglin appeared in four of the Flyers’ five games, making two appearances in the circle and three in the field. The freshman from Farmington Hills, Mich. went 3-for-5 at the plate over the course of the week, driving in a pair of runs on a double down the line in Sunday’s series finale.
