WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Fordham senior Eva Koratsis as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. Saint Joseph’s senior Jules Scogna was named Pitcher of the Week, while Loyola Chicago freshman Anna Kiel and Saint Joseph’s freshman Elyssa Hasapis were named Co-Rookies of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from April 13 to April 19.
Koratsis slashed .417/.562/1.000 on the week as Fordham took two of three games from Rhode Island. Playing first base, the Beaver Dams, N.Y. native went 2-for-3 at the plate in the second game of Saturday’s doubleheader, launching two home runs to rack up three RBIs – the first multi-home run game of her career. She closed the weekend going 2-for-2 with a double and two runs scored on Sunday.
Scogna put together a memorable performance on Senior Day, tossing a one-hitter in a complete game. The Collegeville, Pa. native did not allow St. Bonaventure to score an earned run, allowing just a single hit on a fifth-inning bunt single. Striking out three batters in the contest, Scogna led the Hawks to a 6-1 victory.
Kiel helped lead Loyola Chicago in a perfect weekend, sweeping George Washington for the Ramblers’ fifth A-10 series win of the season. The freshman from South Elgin, Ill. did not allow a single earned run in 7.1 innings of work, earning a six-inning win on Saturday, before aiding in relief on Sunday. Kiel also made an impact in the batter’s box, going 4-for-6 with two doubles and a pair of RBIs.
Hasapis slashed .600/.636/.700 in the Hawks’ sweep of St. Bonaventure, batting 6-for-10 with a double, three RBIs, and six runs scored. Playing third base, the Oak Park, Illinois native had two hits and an RBI in each game of the weekend – registering no strikeouts in 11 plate appearances. Hasapis also tallied three stolen bases.
