WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference recognized Fordham senior Nicki Sudall as its Under Armour Softball Player of the Week. Dayton senior Izzy Kemp was named Pitcher of the Week, while Fordham freshman Sadira Forcucci earned Rookie of the Week honors. The league announced the awards on Tuesday for games played from April 27 to May 3.
Sudall led a strong weekend for the Rams, earning a series victory over A-10 regular season champion Loyola Chicago. The catcher from Downingtown, Pa. recorded a .400/.536/.700 slash line, racking up four hits, three runs and 7 RBI. Sudall did the majority of that damage in game two of the series, driving in six runs on two hits – including a home run.
Kemp pitched a total of 12 scoreless innings, posting back-to-back complete game shutout wins as Dayton pushed forward to earn the No. 3 seed for the upcoming conference championship. In game one of the series, the Westfield, Ind. native fanned 12 batters and only allowed two hits in the 2-0 win. In Saturday afternoon’s rubber match, Kemp struck out eight batters in five innings for a 8-0 triumph.
Forcucci played a key role in Fordham’s success over the weekend, producing a .462/.462/.923 slash line over three games. The West Hartford, Conn. native recorded two home runs, totaling six hits, four RBIs, and three runs across the week.
