WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in volleyball. The awards are for games played from September 28-October 4.
 
Player of the Week: Kate Maley (Jr., Ann Arbor, Mich.), Loyola Chicago
Defensive Player of the Week: Mia Hazelett (So., Apex, N.C.), George Mason
Rookie of the Week: Simone Searles (Fr., Marietta, Ga.), Duquesne
 
Kate Maley led the Ramblers to a 3-0 week in Atlantic 10 play, totaling 24 kills and hitting .500 across the week. The junior registered a season-high 12 kills on .500 hitting in Saturday’s sweep of Rhode Island, then matched her career high with four block assists and hit .615 in another sweep of the Rams on Sunday, putting down eight kills without an error. Maley also had three digs in the three matches.
 
Mia Hazelett actually played two roles this weekend as the Patriots went 2-0 at Davidson. On Friday, she was a serving specialist and only subbed in to serve but still managed four blocks (1S/3A), one service ace, and four kills (hitting .375). The next night, she played a more traditional middle blocker role and saw significant time on the court, coming up with nine blocks (1S/8A) as well as four digs, three service aces, three kills, and two assists. Her nine blocks are tied for most by an individual player in a four-set A10 match this season. Mason is 12-4 overall after weekend play and one of just two unbeaten teams left in conference play, tied with Dayton at 4-0.
 
Simone Searles earned her third straight weekly honor and fourth in the last five weeks, helping the Dukes split a pair of Atlantic 10 road matches at Saint Louis. The freshman averaged 4.56 points, 4.11 kills, 1.89 digs, and 0.89 blocks per set while recording 37 kills, 17 digs and four blocks and hitting .269 for the weekend. Searles opened the weekend with 21 kills while hitting .350 and adding nine digs and two blocks. She closed out the weekend with 16 kills, eight digs and two blocks in a 3-2 comeback victory over the Billikens.
