WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in volleyball. The awards are for games played from October 5-11.
 
Player of the Week: Ellie Rink (So., Bloomington, Ill.), Saint Louis
Defensive Player of the Week: Letizia Galli (Jr., Appiano Gentile, Italy), VCU
Rookie of the Week: Johanna Franzen (Fr., Zörbig, Germany), Fordham
 
Ellie Rink was front and center as Saint Louis made history by ending Dayton’s 62-match win streak in Atlantic 10 regular-season play on Saturday night at the Billikens’ Chaifetz Pavilion. The sophomore put down 24 kills and came up with 12 digs for a double-double and hit .435 in the 3-1 victory (after Dayton had swept the Billikens on Friday, 3-0). She also added two block assists in the victory, which pinned the Flyers with their first regular-season A10 loss since November 5, 2022. Galli’s 24 kills were a personal career high for a four-set match and the second-most by an A10 player in a four-set match this season.
 
Letizia Galli dominated the front line as VCU went 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play, defeating Davidson 3-2 midweek and then Rhode Island twice over the weekend. Of particular note, she finished with a rare kills/blocks double-double against the Wildcats with 11 of each, three of her blocks being of the solo variety. The 11 blocks are the most by an A10 player in a five-set conference match this season. Galli finished the week with 16 blocks overall (5 solo/11 assist) and put down 36 kills across the Rams’ three matches, reaching double figures in that category in all three wins.
 
Johanna Franzen earned her first weekly honor as Fordham also went a perfect 3-0 in Atlantic 10 play last week. The freshman reached double digits in kills in all three matches, finishing the week with 39 kills (3.55 kills/set) and hitting .330. Defensively, she worked both lines with 22 digs (2.00 digs/set) and nine blocks (two solo/seven assisted). Franzen also had four assists and a service ace as the Rams knocked off Rhode Island on Wednesday and then swept a pair of 3-1 decisions over George Mason on the weekend.
