WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in women’s soccer. The awards are for games played from October 12-18.

Offensive Player of the Week: Justyce Hollenbach (Gr., Harrisburg, Pa.), La Salle
Defensive Player of the Week: Olivia Beam (Fifth, Eureka, Mo.), Loyola Chicago
Rookie of the Week: Molly Merkel (Fr., Carol Stream, Ill.), Rhode Island

For the third time this season and the second time in as many weeks, La Salle’s Justyce Hollenbach has been recognized as the conference’s best weekly offensive player. Hollenbach delivered another brace, scoring twice to guide the Explorers to a crucial conference point in a 2-2 draw versus Fordham. The graduate forward scored the tying goal in the 8th minute before supplying the go-ahead goal in the 33rd. Hollenbach is on a tear recently, scoring in four-consecutive matches with two braces in her last two. She now has 12 goals this season, with seven coming in conference play. Her efforts have La Salle sitting in third, just three points behind the first place Saint Louis Billikens.

Olivia Beam earned her Defensive Player of the Week honors anchoring a backline that held Duquesne to just two shots, zero of which on goal. Defense has been a premium for the Ramblers this year, allowing just ten goals all year (second in the A10) and only three goals in conference play (tied for first in the A10). They’ve allowed one goal or less in all but one match this year, and it’s that consistency that has them fifth in the conference with a 3-0-4 conference record thus far.

Speaking of teams in the postseason picture, Rhode Island earned a big win over Saint Joseph’s this week, courtesy of Molly Merkel’s efforts. Merkel delivered Rhody’s bookend goals, scoring in the opening two minutes to give the Rams an early lead before finding the final insurance goal needed to comfortably walk away with a win. Rhode Island is just one point out of first place and carries a 5-1-1 conference record into a home match against Richmond this week.
