WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in field hockey. The awards are for games played from October 5-11.
Offensive Player of the Week: Matilda Collins (Sr. Willingdon, England), Davidson
Defensive Player of the Week: Kerri O’Donnell (Sr., Hillsborough, N.J.), Saint Louis
Rookie of the Week: Julia Spohr (Fr., Oberursel, Germany), VCU
Matilda Collins led the Wildcats to their first Atlantic 10 win of the season on Friday, a 2-1 overtime decision on the road over La Salle. The senior assisted Davidson’s tying goal midway through the third quarter, then scored the game-winner nearly five minutes into the extra session. Collins is tied for the team lead with eight goals and tops the Wildcats with 18 points this season.
Kerri O’Donnell certainly made it a Senior Day to remember at Saint Louis on Sunday. Making just her second start this season, the senior—one of just two to be honored during the pregame ceremony—came up with nine saves as the Billikens knocked off Central Michigan in overtime, 2-1. Five of O’Donnell’s saves came in the fourth quarter, and she added another in OT before SLU scored its winner.
Julia Spohr helped VCU remain undefeated in A10 play on Friday, scoring twice as the Rams defeated Lock Haven, 5-2. Spohr’s first goal came with just 35 seconds left in the first half and broke a 1-1 tie, and then she added a second to make it 3-1 late in the third quarter. VCU is 3-0 in league play and tied with Saint Joseph’s atop the conference standings.
