WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Saint Joseph’s senior Benjamin Henry as its Under Armour Men’s Indoor Track and Field Performer of the Week and VCU senior Troy McWilliams as its Field Performer of the Week. McWilliams' freshman teammate Destiney Ese earned Rookie of the Week accolades.
Saint Joseph’s senior Tess Crossan received Under Armour Women’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week, while Dayton senior Rebekah Conrad was tabbed as Field Performer of the Week. Conrad’s freshman teammate Simone Bessong collected Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced on Tuesday and are for competitions from January 5 –11.
Henry, a Bethlehem, Pa. native, claimed a pair of victories at the Penn Select meet on Saturday, finishing first in both the 200m and 400m. Henry's 48.54 in the 400m set a new meet record, while he turned in a victorious 21.54 in the 200m. His 200M time also ranks first in the conference and tied for 41st in Division I.
McWilliams claimed gold in the weight throw at the VCU Ram Indoor Invite. He set a personal record and the eighth best weight throw in program history with a mark of 17.83M. McWilliams, a Newport News, Va. native, holds the second best mark in the conference.
In his collegiate debut, Ese qualified for the long jump finals at the VCU Rams Indoor Invite. He finished third overall in a field of 34 participants with a mark of 7.05M. Ese, who’s from Nigeria, holds the sixth best distance in the A-10.
Crossan placed third in the 800m at the Penn Select meet on Saturday, doing so in a school-record time of 2:09.05. The Collegeville, Pa. native eclipsed her own previous mark set a year ago by a quarter of a second. Crossan’s time also ranks first in the conference and 16th in the nation.
Conrad made her season debut at the Wilf Schnier Invitational, hosted by Capital University. Conrad, a Butler, OH native, finished second in the shot put with a mark of 12.82m, which puts her second in the A-10. She would then win the weight throw, recording a new personal best of 18.55m. Her weight throw mark leads the conference.
Bessong, a Florence, Ky. native, earned her first collegiate win on the track at the Wolverine Invitational, hosted by the University of Michigan. Her time of 24.36 puts her third in program history. It also ranks atop the A-10 this season.
