WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference named Saint Louis junior Sierra Larson as its Under Armour Field Hockey Offensive Player of the Week while VCU sophomore Emma Clements was named Defensive Player of the Week. Richmond freshman Amy Stripling earned Rookie of the Week. The awards, were announced on Monday and are for games played September 1-7.
Larson, a forward from North Vancouver, British Columbia, scored three goals during a perfect 2-0 week for the Billikens. She scored a key insurance goal in SLU's win over Ohio, which was the Billikens' first win against the Bobcats since 1997. Then against Lincoln Memorial the next day, Larson turned in two goals as SLU knocked off the Railsplitters, 6-0.
A goalkeeper from Fredericksburg, Va., Clements made two saves in VCU's 3-0 shutout win over in-state rival William & Mary on Friday. She played all 60 minutes and registered the shutout, the Rams first blanking this season.
Stripling led the Spiders in scoring this weekend with two goals. The midfielder/defender from Darwin, Australia, tallied her first collegiate goal to take the lead against JMU Friday on a penalty corner. Her second goal tied the game against No. 17 Liberty, converting a penalty stroke in the third quarter.
