WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in field hockey. The awards are for games played from September 21-27.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Adèle Jardemar (Jr., Saint Germain en Laye, France), Saint Joseph’s
Defensive Player of the Week: Milou Kluyt (Sr., Goirle, The Netherlands), Saint Joseph’s
Rookie of the Week: Julia Spohr (Fr., Oberursel, Germany), VCU
 
Adèle Jardemar scored two goals on Friday—one to restore the lead, the second to seal the win—as the Hawks topped Richmond, 3-1, in a rematch of last season's Atlantic 10 title game. The goals, which both came on penalty corners, were her second and third of the season and moved the Hawks to 2-0 in league play.
 
At the other end of the field, Milou Kluyt led a strong defensive effort for the Hawks in Friday’s victory over the Spiders. The reigning Atlantic 10 Defensive Player of the Year was at the forefront of the backline as the Hawks stifled the high-powered Spiders offense, holding the visitors to just one shot in each of the first two quarters and six for the game. Richmond also earned just two corners, after averaging 8.75 per game entering the contest.
 
Julia Spohr recorded two assists over the weekend, one in each game as VCU went 2-0 and remained unbeaten in conference play along with Saint Joseph’s. Her first assist came in the Rams' 4-1 win over A10 rival Saint Louis on Friday, then she assisted the game-winning goal in VCU's 2-1 overtime win over Georgetown on Sunday.
