ST. LOUIS – In a battle of ranked teams at Robert R. Hermann Stadium, No. 9 Portland and No. 24 Saint Louis played to a scoreless draw Friday night.
The Billikens move to 3-1-2 overall. Portland is now 5-0-1.
The Pilots have yet to concede a goal this year. The Bills had several quality chances and fired eight shots. Likewise, Portland had its share of chances, forcing Billiken keeper Jeremi Abonnel to make four saves for his fourth clean sheet of the season.
Quinten Blair had perhaps the best chance for the Bills in the first half. The ball came to him on the doorstep, and Blair's shot was kicked aside by Portland keeper Miguel-Angel Hernandez. Later, Xavi O'Neil sent one just high of the bar.
In the second half, Andrew Heckenlaible had a chance running in to the box that Hernandez managed to save.
SLU ended up out-shooting Portland 8-6. The Pilots had an 11-5 advantage in corner kicks.
Saint Louis is back in action on Tuesday, Sept. 16, when it hosts Missouri State at Hermann Stadium. The Bears are 3-1-1 and are coming off a 4-0 win Friday against Temple.
