No. 3 Richmond, No. 5 VCU Face Off in Sunday's A-10 Women's Tennis Championship

ORLANDO, Fla. -- The fifth-seeded VCU Rams and the third-seeded Richmond Spiders won their respective Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship semifinals on Saturday to advance to the Atlantic 10 Women’s Tennis Championship. The A-10 Women’s Tennis Championship is slated for Sunday at 10 a.m. at the USTA National Campus.  


Match 10: No. 5 VCU def. No. 1 Fordham 4-2 

The fifth-seeded VCU Rams rallied after losing the doubles point and the first singles point to defeat the top-seeded Fordham Rams 4-2. The VCU Rams return to the championship for the first time since 2023 and will make their eleventh appearance in 12 years. Fordham collected the doubles point behind efforts from Lorraine Bergmann and Lily Chitambar, and Paola Ueno Dalmonicco and Catalina Pailla. Bergmann and Chitambar took down VCU’s Lea Malazdra and Sofia Jabe Thorne 6-1. Then Ueno Dalmonicco and Padilla defeated Andrea Magallanes and Yelizaveta Karlova 6-4. Fordham won its singles point behind Nevena Kolarevic’s 6-0, 6-2 victory against Thorne. VCU rattled off four straight victories to rally back. Karlova won 6-4, 6-4 over Padilla on court six. Magallanes followed with her 6-4, 7-5 victory on court five. Tania Isabel Andrade Sabando of VCU won her singles 7-6, 6-4 over Julianne Nguyen on court two. Mariam Ibrahim clinched the winning point with her 6-0, 5-7, 6-4 defeat of Bergamann.

Match 11: No. 3 Richmond def. No. 2 Massachusetts 4-0 

The third-seeded Richmond Spiders upset the second-seeded Massachusetts Minutewomen 4-0. The Spiders knocked off the defending the A-10 champions Minutewomen and will advance to their second consecutive championship appearance. At No. 3 doubles, Lainey O’Neil and Claire Le Du took down UMass’ Martina Pavissich and Trinity Calinescu 6-0. Then the Minutewomen claimed a 6-4 win on court one by Mariana Campino and Belle Jonglertrakul against Lara Bakhaya and Andrea Campodonico. Richmond’s 6-4 win on court two by Elizabeth Novak and Sofia Barbulescu over Ella Faessler and Amelia Tye sealed the doubles point for the Spiders. At singles, Campodonico defeated Faessler 6-1, 6-3. Her win was followed by Le Du’s victory on court four against Tye, 6-0, 7-5. Richmond’s Abby Lee captured the winning point on court six with her 6-2, 6-3 victory against UMass’ Trinity Calinescu.
