Dayton, Fordham, Rhode Island Earn Under Armour Weekly Tennis Awards

WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed Dayton sophomore Kyle McNally as its Under Armour Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Fordham freshman Filip Horak was named Rookie of the Week. Fordham junior Nevena Kolarevic earned Women’s Tennis Player of the Week and Rhode Island freshman Anastasia Pettersson received Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced on Tuesday, are for matches from March 17 to March 23.  

McNally had a standout 2-0 week in singles for the Flyers and helped lead Dayton to wins over VCU and Richmond. McNally, an Algonquin, Ill. native, cruised to a 6-4, 6-2 win over VCU at No. 1 singles. Against the Spiders, he secured a 6-2, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles.  

Horak was a perfect 3-0 for Fordham with wins against Lewis University, Morgan State and Stonehill. At No. 1 singles, he defeated Lewis University’s Indrek Soome, 7-6 (7-3), 6-1. In No. 2 singles, he defeated Morgan State’s Mikkijha Brown, 6-3, 7-5 and Stonehill’s Jacob Krefting 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 10-6. Horak, a Czechia native, teamed with Phillip Uhde at No. 2 doubles and defeated Morgan State’s Majdi Ben Abdelwahed and Mohamed Ridha Ghetta. 

Kolarevic went 3-0 in No. 1 singles and 2-1 in No. 1 doubles for Fordham. Kolarevic, a Belgrade, Serbia native, began the week with a 6-7 (5-7), 6-2, 7-6 (9-7) win over William & Mary. She defeated Richmond’s Sofia Barbulescu, 6-3, 6-2 on Friday and beat VCU’s T. Andrade Sabando, 1-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday. Kolarevic partnered with Julianne Nguyen in No. 1 doubles to defeat Richmond, 7-6 (7-3) and William & Mary, 6-3.  

Pettersson, a Ydre, Sweden native, went 2-0 in singles and 1-0 in doubles to help Rhode Island defeat George Washington and George Mason. She defeated GW’s Solange Skeene, 6-4, 6-2 and GM’s Noelle Talarek, 6-3, 6-4. Her and her teammate Grace Darcy beat GW’s Madison Lee and Victoria Sasinka at No. 2 doubles. Pettersson and Darcy led over GM’s Mary Young and Brooklyn Siegel, 5-2 before play was stopped because URI clinched the doubles point.
