WASHINGTON -- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named a pair of Richmond juniors, Aidan O'Neil and Hunter Smith as its first Under Armour Men's Lacrosse Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week this season. High Point redshirt freshman Owen Bunten was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played on February 1-2.
O'Neil scored a game-high four goals off 10 shots in Richmond's 12-7 season-opening loss at No. 5 Maryland Saturday. The Centreville, Mass. native scored all four of his goals in the second half to jolt the Spiders offense.
Smith recorded two groundballs and caused a turnover for the Spiders against No. 5 Maryland. The Rochester, N.Y. native helped hold the Terrapins to just two goals in the first quarter and just one goal in the fourth quarter.
Bunten appeared in his first collegiate game and scored two goals on 5 shots on goal in High Point's loss to Navy. The Southwick, Ma. native scored on of his goals during the Panthers three goal run to help close the gap to two goals in the fourth quarter picked up a ground ball and two caused turnovers.
