WASHINGTON – Richmond senior Aidan O’Neill was named the Atlantic 10 Under Armour Men’s Lacrosse Player of the Week, while High Point senior Luca Accardo earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Saint Joseph’s freshman Colby Wood collected Rookie of the Week honors. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from March 216-23.
O'Neil led the Spiders with a game and season-high seven points in No. 2 Richmond’s win at Massachusetts. The attacker from Centerville, Mass., scored three goals and tallied four assists versus the Minutemen.
Accardo picked up a program-record 19 ground balls which also was a NCAA single-game high this season. A face-off specialist from Syosset, N.Y., he went 21-23 on the faceoff including a perfect 15-15 in the first half in the conference win over league newcomer Delaware. Accardo was one faceoff win from tying his program record he set a week ago.
Wood scored three goals off the second line of the Hawks attack, registering a hat trick for his second consecutive game. The attacker/midfielder from Peterborough Ontario, turned all four of his shots on target, scoring on 75 percent of them.
