WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference tabbed Fordham junior Dhillon Virdee-Oakley as its Under Armour Men’s Player of the Week, while Richmond freshman Sam Rathmanner collected Men’s Rookie of the Week honors. Davidson senior Kavya Patel received Under Armour Women’s Player of the Week and Rhode Island freshman Katharina Spieth was named Women’s Rookie of the Week. The awards, which were announced Wednesday, are for matches from Feb. 19 to Feb. 24.
 
Virdee-Oakley defeated Norfolk State’s Vladisav Gorbatenko in straight sets at first singles, 6-4, 6-2. He teamed with Dhananjay Athreya in first doubles to win 6-4 over Gorbatenko and Deniz Okyay. The San Roque, Spain native played first doubles with Arthreya in Fordham’s match at No. 30 Penn. Virdee-Oakley and Arthreya played first doubles against Penn’s Sanjeev Chundu and Aaron Sandler, which was halted at 5-5 after the double point was clinched by Penn.
 
Rathmanner, a Mahtomedi, Minn. native, played a key role for the Spiders in their matches against Georgetown and Navy. In the No. 6 spot, he defeated Georgetown’s Burke Pablo, 6-1, 6-1. His singles victory helped the Spiders defeat Georgetown. Rathmanner secured the lone singles win against Navy’s Graydon Nuckingham, 7-5, 6-4 in the No. 6 singles spot.
 
Patel was pivotal in Davidson wins over Presbyterian (4-3) and UNC Asheville (6-1). In No. 1 singles, Patel defeated Presbyterian’s Claudia Sanchez, 6-4, 6-2. Her and Olivia Hooper clinched the match against Presbyterian’s Sanchez and Elle Sceney, 7-5, 7-6, 6-4 three-set victory. In No. 1 singles, the Rosswell, Ga. native defeated UNC Asheville’s Alexis Nyborg, 7-5, 6-7, 6-4. Her and Hooper also captured a win in the No. 2 doubles against Avery Sager and Louise Booker, 6-4.
 
Spieth went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 1-0 in No. 1 doubles in Rhode Island’s victories over Stonehill and Sacred Heart. She defeated Stonehill’s Lilah Shallcross 6-1, 6-4 in route to a 4-0 URI win. Spieth, a Stuugart, Germany native, beat Sacred Heart’s Ola Irla Bartyzel, 6-4, 6-2. Her and Nikki Fernando also paired up for a 6-0 victory at No. 1 doubles in a 5-0 URI win.
