WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Duquesne sophomore Emersen Schrom its Under Armour Volleyball Player of the Week. Loyola Chicago junior Avary DeBlieck was chosen as the league’s Defensive Player of the Week. George Mason freshman Ava Cheney was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced Monday and are for games played from October 27-November 2.
 
Schrom helped Duquesne extend its winning streak to six games and clinch a spot in the Atlantic 10 Championship with a pair of weekend victories. Over the two matches, the outside hitter averaged 6.13 points, 5.63 kills, 2.38 digs, and hit at a .372 clip, totaling 45 kills and 19 digs. A Pittsburgh native, she opened the weekend with her 12th double-double of the season, posting 28 kills and 10 digs while hitting .462 in a 3-1 win over Davidson. It marked her seventh match this season with 20 or more kills. She followed that performance with 17 kills and nine digs, adding two blocks and two service aces in a 3-1 victory over the Wildcats. It’s the second straight Player of the Week nod for Schrom and the fourth overall this season.
 
DeBlieck totaled 25 blocks over three matches for the Ramblers. A middle blocker form Algonquin, Ill., she had a season-high 12 in the five-set loss to Saint Louis before added seven and six against Rhode Island. She's three blocks shy of breaking Loyola's single season record of 144 set in 2021. It the second Defensive Player honor for DeBlieck this season.
 
Thompson stepped up in a key moment for the Patriots, averaging 3.67 kills, 3.56 digs, .33 blocks, .22 sets, and .56 service aces. An outside hitter from San Diego, Calif., she was a top scorer in both wins over Fordham last weekend. In both games, she notched double-doubles, with 20 kills and 15 digs on Friday and 13 kills and 17 digs on Saturday. She also totaled five service aces and three blocks on the weekend.
