ORLANDO, Fla. - The top-seeded VCU Rams punched their ticket into the Atlantic 10 Men's Tennis Championship final with a 5-0 victory against No. 4 Saint Louis at the USTA National Campus in Orlando on Saturday. The win sets up a rematch of the Championship final from a year ago, as the Rams will face No. 3 Dayton on Sunday at 10:00 am.
The Rams got on the board early in doubles action, earning a pair of 6-1 victories on courts two and three finishing in just over 30 minutes. The pair of Romain Gales and Mathis Bondaz finished first, before Matisse Bobichon and Hamza El Amine clinched the point at second doubles.
In singles action the Rams picked up first set victories on all six courts, including Oscar Pinto Sansano's tiebreak at No. 3 singles. VCU struck with a 6-2, 6-1 victory from Matisse Bobichon and a 6-1, 6-4 decision from Romain Gales to give VCU a 3-0 match lead.
On opposite courts of the complex, both German Samofalov and Mathis Bondaz finished their second sets simultaneously, clinching the team victory for VCU by a score of 5-0.
This mark's VCU's 10th appearance in an Atlantic 10 final, competing for the title in each of the years since joining the league. The Rams have won the last six A-10 Men's Tennis titles since 2017 (no Championship held in 2020 due to COVID-19).
