DAYTON, Ohio – No. 2 Dayton won its second straight Atlantic 10 Men’s Soccer Championship Sunday with a decisive 3-0 win over No. 6 Saint Louis.

The Flyers (13-2-3) claim their sixth league title overall and the A-10’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. Four other Atlantic 10 teams, including Saint Louis (8-4-8), await potential at-large consideration after a solid year in which five A-10 teams were inside the top 50 in RPI.

UD dominated the game, especially in the first half, with a 10-2 advantage in shots. But only one of those found home, and it was late in the half. Felix Buabeng took a pair of quick toe tap passes from the Championship’s Most Outstanding Player Hjalti Sigurdsson and All- Championship selection Martin Bakken at the top of the box and rocketed a shot to the low left post and in. The goal proved to be the game winner, but the Flyers weren’t done.

Despite the offensive push, the Billiken defense kept Dayton from getting a clean shot other than the goal to keep the game reachable. Of UD’s 10 first-half shots, only the goal was on target.

The first 25 minutes of the second half were scoreless, but the Flyers broke through midway through with back-to-back insurance goals in less than 2:30. Braden Seel fed Joseph Melto Quiah the ball, who crossed through the box with some fancy footwork to pull SLU keeper Jeremi Abonnel to one side. Melto Quiah then crossed over and fired the ball back the other way for a goal at 70:44.

Buabeng scored his second goal of the game at 73:13, a nice sliding tap following a drive and pass by Andrew Armstrong to draw out Abonnel.

Buabeng, Armstrong and Melto Quiah all earned All-Championship honors.
The Billikens scatted six shots among six different players and led corner kick opportunities 4-2. Abonnel made two saves in the game and earned All-Championship accolades.

Melto Quiah had six shot attempts to lead Dayton, with Buabeng firing four and Bakken registering three. In all, UD collected 19 shots.

Also earning All-Championship recognition was Fordham Daniel D’lppolito, Javier Montava of George Mason, Max Floriani and Joey Maher of Saint Louis, and Dayton keeper Dario Caetano, who made one save Sunday.
