WASHINGTON – The Atlantic 10 Conference has announced its weekly honors in men’s soccer. The awards are for games played from September 7-13.
 
Offensive Player of the Week: Pablo Martinez (So., Seville, Spain), Dayton
Defensive Player of the Week: Max Ionita (Jr., Chicago, Ill.), Loyola Chicago
Rookie of the Week: Alex Smith (Fr., Devon, Pa.), Saint Joseph’s
 
Pablo Martinez powered Dayton to a 3-2 win over visiting Butler on Saturday night, contributing to all three Flyer goals. The sophomore midfielder scored the first two goals of the match on a pair of well-struck shots before finding teammate Cooper Lijewski for the 87^th minute game-winner – Lijewski’s third assist of the season.
 
Max Ionita helped the Ramblers post a 2-1-0 record this week, collecting two shutouts while totaling 19 saves across three matches. The junior goalkeeper made eight crucial saves in a 1-0 victory over Gonzaga on Monday, before recording six more saves in a 1-0 win against SIUE. Ionita’s lone goal allowed came in a 1-0 loss to UIC, but the Chicago native still held his own with five saves in the defeat.
 
Alex Smith also put together a tremendous week in net, posting a pair of clean sheets. The first-year goalkeeper recorded a career-best six saves in a 0-0 draw at Rider on Tuesday, before earning a 2-0 victory with four saves against LIU on Saturday. Smith has allowed just two goals in five games this season, the second-lowest total through five games in program history.
