ORLANDO, Fla. – The Atlantic 10 Conference Women's Tennis Championship kicked off on Thursday with a trio of early matches at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. The fourth-seeded Richmond Spiders defeated No. 13 Saint Joseph's, 4-0, while the fifth-seeded George Washington Colonials took down No. 12 St. Bonaventure, also by a score of 4-0. The early session concluded with the ninth-seeded Saint Louis Billikens defeating No. 8 George Mason, 4-0.

Paced by a clean sweep on the doubles court along with three decisive victories in the lower singles, fourth-seeded Richmond ousted No. 13 Saint Joseph's in opening round action at the A-10 Women's Tennis Championship. The duo of Andrea Campodonico and Polina Shitikova led the way with a perfect 6-0 win on doubles court one before Lara Bakhaya and Elizabeth Novak sealed the point with a 6-2 victory on court No. 3. Over in the singles, Novak proved the most efficient overall, claiming a quick 6-1, 6-0 win in the No. 4 matchup before Marta Buendia (court six) and Claire Le Du closed out the win with 6-3, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3 victories on courts six and five, respectively.

Sarah Bodewes and Lindsay Thompson partnered up on court three for the opening doubles point, earning a 6-0 win, before Stella Wiesemann and Gabriela Giraldo worked together for a 6-2 victory on court No. 1 to lock down doubles for GW. Weisemann jumped on top of her singles opponent early on, posting a straight sets win in the first flight, before Bodewes and Thompson generated solid victories as well on courts four and five, respectively, to advance the Colonials on to the second round.

Meanwhile, singles action featured Norhan Hesham continuing the win streak for SLU with a 6-3, 6-2 win on court two before Mintusova posted a key 6-3, 6-4 victory on court No. 1, setting up Fiorella Duran in the third flight to seal the match with a decisive 6-4, 6-1 win.
