NEWPORT NEWS, Va. –  Saint Joseph’s graduate student Hailey Bitters was named Atlantic 10 Conference Offensive Player of the Week, while Lock Haven redshirt-junior Jazmin Palma grabbed Defensive Player of the Week. Mia Smith from Massachusetts walked away with Rookie of the Week to round out the selections. The awards were given for performances in games from Sept. 5-11.

Bitters, a forward, scored twice as the Hawks topped #20 Boston College, 3-1, at home on Sunday. Her first goal of the day came just over six minutes into the game and gave the Hawks a lead they wouldn't relinquish. Bitters, a Delmar, Md. native, came through once again early in the fourth quarter as the visitors ramped up the pressure in search of an equalizer; she tipped home a pass to restore the two-goal lead.

Lock Haven’s Jazmin Palma, a native of Entre Rios Providence, Argentina, won Defensive Player of the week behind her perfomances in games against Georgetown and Central Michigan. She scored off a penalty stroke in the Georgetown game to tie it at 1-1 shortly before the 13th minute mark as the Bald Eagles went on to win 3-2. The sifiling defense of the Bald Eagles held the Chippewas of Central Michigan to only one shot in their 2-1 win.

Smith contributed to both goals in UMass’ win over Providence, initially scoring the first before assisting on the second as the Minutewomen powered to a 2-0 victory on Saturday en route to their fourth W of the year.
