ORLANDO, Fla. – Top-seeded VCU defeated No. 4 Davidson, 4-0, while No. 3 Fordham defeated No. 7 George Washington, 4-3 in the semifinals of the 2022 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus on Friday.

VCU advances to face No. 3 Fordham on Saturday at 5:30 pm.

VCU came into doubles play blazing, bringing in victories at No. 2 and No. 1 doubles. Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado and Laura Garcia Astudillo won on the No. 2 court, 6-1, over Elizabeth Truluck and Mira Gladstone. The duo of Gabriela Davidescu and Shivani Manjanna sealed the deal at No. 1, 6-1, over Josie Schaffer and Kavya Patel.

Diaz-Delgado presented a strong performance in the top singles flight, 6-0, 6-2, over Schaffer. Manjanna held down the fort in No. 6 singles, 6-3, 6-4, over Daniela Porges. Yelizaveta Karlova closed out singles play for the Rams with a win at No. 1, 6-0, 6-2, over Truluck. 

George Washington started off strong in doubles with wins at the No. 1 and No. 3 courts. Katarina Marinkovikj and Alexandra Vesikallio took a single set win over Avery Aude and Valeriya Deminova at No. 1, 6-3. Lindsay Thompson and Sarah Bodewes defeated Carlota Casasampere and Rachelle Young at No. 2, 7-5.  

Singles play was survival of the fittest for the Rams and Colonials. Stella Wiesemann took the top singles flight, 6-1,6-1, over Avery Aude, while Katarina Marinkovikj claimed No. 2 singles, 6-1,6-0, over Valeriya Deminova. The momentum shifted at No. 4 singles with Eleni Fasoula defeating Alexandra Vasikallio in a three set win, 4-6, 7-5, 6-4. 

The Rams held on in No. 5 singles, with Nicole Li securing the win over Charlotte Bell, 6-2, 6-0. Lorraine Bergmann went three sets, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, on the No. 6 singles court over Lara McNaughten. Eleni Fasoula and Alexandra Vasikallio went head-to-head in a passion-filled No. 3 singles clash, with Vasikallio securing the match in a 4-6, 7-5, 6-4 victory.
