Ramblers Win Women’s Cross Country Championship; First A-10 Title for Loyola

MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – Loyola Chicago won the Atlantic 10 Women’s Cross Country Championship Saturday at Pole Green Park. Elizabeth Mancini of La Salle earned individual the individual title, finishing with the second fastest time in league history.
 
Loyola, in their first season in the A-10, picked up its Atlantic 10 title in any sport, scoring 54 points. The Ramblers also won the Men’s Cross Country championship Saturday.
 
 
Mancini finished with a time of 16:38.6, just over a second behind the all-time league record of 16:37.4, held by Rhode Island’s Lotte Black, which was also set at Pole Green Park. Mancini’s sister Eleanor finished third at 16:40.2, setting the mark for the third fastest time in league history.
 
The Ramblers were led by Nora Wollen, who finished fifth with a time of 16:57.0, followed by freshman teammate, Lilian Mataway in sixth at 17:06.3 who earned Most Outstanding Rookie honors. Claire Hengesbaugh was LUC’s third finisher at 17:22.6, good for eighth place. Grace Jostock placed 13th at 17:38.7 and Ali Gillooly finished 22nd at 18:02.1 to round out the Ramblers scoring. Loyola Chicago coach Gavin Kennedy was named A-10 Coach of the Year.
 
La Salle Elizabeth Mancini, Eleanor Manicini, and Christine Manicini were the top three runners for the Explorers who scored 74 points. Christine Mancini was fourth overall at 16:57.0 and the third La Salle runner inside the top 15.
 
George Mason secured third place with 92 points as a team behind Anabelle Eastman’s third place time (16.55.4), while her teammate Sarah Francis finished inside the top-15 at 11th with a time of 17.32.8. Mason also saw Kate O’Neill round out the top-15 at 17:42.7.
 
The 2021 champion George Washington placed fourth with 105 points. Dayton (113), Richmond (119), and Massachusetts (194) secured the rest of the top seven team spots. 
 
The Atlantic 10 All-Conference Team consists of the top-15 runners, La Salle’s Elizabeth, Elenor and Christine Mancini; Mason’s Eastman, Francis, and O’Neill, Wollen, Mataway, Hengesbaugh, and Grace Jostock of Loyola Chicago, Yukino Parle and Sarah Mitchell of George Washington, Madison Trippett and Laurel Kurtz of Richmond and Dayton’s Abby Carter.
