ORLANDO, Fla. - The top-seeded VCU Rams won their third consecutive and seventh Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship on Saturday, defeating cross-town rival, No. 3 Richmond, 4-0 at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.

The Rams' pair of Noumea Witmus and Paola Exposito Diaz-Delgado got off to a quick start at No. 2 doubles, opening up a quick 4-1 lead before eventually taking the victory, 6-2. At third doubles, Richmond's Adrienne Haynes and Marta Buendia played Alessia Ciuca and Shivani Manjanna tough, but the pair from VCU came back to tie it at 5-5. 

Gabriela Davidescu and Luminita Tutunaru clinched the opening point of the match at top doubles with a 6-4 victory.

In singles action, the Rams' Diaz-Delgado, Davidescu and Manjanna all took first sets at courts 1, 4 and 6, respectively. Richmond's Dessi Zlateva opened up a first-set lead but Tutunaru battled back to force the tiebreak. Spiders No. 5 Sara Salemyr also won her opening set, 6-3 against Nouma Witmus.

Manjanna made quick work of her second set, winning 6-0 to extend the Rams lead to 2-0. Not long after, Diaz Delgado completed her court, 6-0, as well to put the Championship in reach.

With Witmus battling back 5-2 in her second set at No. 5 singles and the tiebreak at No. 2 singles, the match hinged on court four between Davidescu and Polina Shitikova. Davidescu dropped just one game in each set to finish off her opponent and clinch the 4-0 team victory.

With their win, the Rams are the Atlantic 10 Automatic Qualifer to the NCAA Team Championship, which will be announced on Monday on NCAA.com.
