ORLANDO, FLA. - The sixth-seeded Davidson Wildcats earned a spot in the Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis quarterfinals, defeating George Mason, 4-0 Wednesday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando. With the win, the 'Cats will take on No. 3 Richmond on Thursday at 6:30 pm.
Davidson struck first in doubles play, with the pair of Josie Schaffer and Elizabeth Truluck taking a 7-5 victory on court one. The Patriots evened up the doubles action with a win of their own behind Paige La and Hannah Yang in a tiebreaker, 7-6(1). The opening point hinged on court three, where Mira Gladstone and Victoria Anyanwu clinched the point, also in a tiebreaker, 7-6(5).
Gladstone, playing at No. 3 singles, rode the momentum of her doubles victory, to a straight-set singles victory to extend the 'Cats lead. On court four, Yang won the first set against Ava Ignatowich, but was trailing in set two when she was forced to retire, giving Davidson a 3-0 lead.
After dropping the second set, Franny Shea replicated her first set 6-0 win to clinch the match for the Wildcats.

ORLANDO, Fla. - No. 7 Saint Louis kept the 10th seeded St. Bonaventure Bonnies at bay long enough to earn a 4-1 victory in the opening round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship Wednesday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Bonnies got it started in doubles play with the duo of Anastasia Gubanova and Amelia Haley taking third doubles, 6-3. Saint Louis then tied up the match on court two behind the pairing Jessica Stefan and Mya Spencer. The top pair from SLU, Elizabeth Mintusova and Mariona Perez pulled away to win and earn the doubles point, 6-4.
In singles action, St. Bonventure's Buse Gunay made quick work at court No. 6, winning 6-0, 6-1 to even the team score at 1-1. The Bonnies also picked up first set victories on courts one, three, and five.
Perez handed the lead back to the Billikens with a 6-1, 6-1 win at No. 2 before Mya Spencer made it 3-1. The Billikens forced a third set at No. 1, and No. 3 singles, while court five was destined for a tiebreak.
The match was clinched behind the Billikens' top player, Mintusova. She rallied to win her final two sets, 6-2, 6-1 for the team victory.
The Billikens will take on second-seeded Rhode Island on Thursday at 3:30 pm.
