ORLANDO, Fla. - The fourth-seeded George Washington Colonials advanced to the quarterfinals of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship with a 4-0 victory against La Salle on Wednesday at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
In doubles play, George Washington's Alexis Nelson and Lindsay Thompson defeated La Salle's Jazmin Walle and Aleksandra Nikolic, 6-0, for the second and clinching doubles court. La Salle forfeited on court three. The Colonials pairing of Sarah Bodewes and Stella Wiesemann were leading 5-0 when the point was clinched.
In singles play, La Salle was also forced to forfeit on courts five and six, giving GW a 3-0 match lead. The Colonials picked up fist set wins on each of the four courts, with Sarah Bodewes clinching the match at No. 4 singles, 6-0, 6-2.
With the win, the Colonials advance to the quarterfinals of the A-10 Championship and will face No. 5 Fordham at 6:00 pm on Thursday.

ORLANDO, Fla. - The fifth-seeded defeated No. 12 Saint Joseph's, 4-1 in the opening round of the 2021 Atlantic 10 Women's Tennis Championship at the USTA National Campus in Orlando, Fla.
Playing with a shortened roster, the Rams forfeited the No. 3 doubles court, before evening the score at court No. 2 behind the team of Nicole Li and Eleni Fasoula. Then, at the top doubles flight, Arina Taluyenko and Valeriya Deminova came from behind for a 7-5 victory and clinched the opening match point.
The Hawks evened the score as Fordham also forfeited court No. 6 in singles play. Taluyenko gave the Rams a 2-1 lead, taking straight sets from Amanda Nava at No. 1 singles, 6-3, 6-4. Deminova extended the Fordham lead with a 6-0, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles.
After dropping the opening sets on No. 2 and No. 4 singles, the Hawks picked up second set victories from Stow Weiss and Anna Kirk, with both SJU players ahead in the third set.
Ultimately, the match was clinched on court No. 5 as Li defeated Sophia Amato, 6-4, 6-4.
