Saint Joseph's, Lock Haven, Richmond Take Weekly Field Hockey Awards

NEWPORT NEWS, Va.- The Atlantic 10 Conference has named Saint Joseph's sophomore Anna Miller its Field Hockey Player of the Week, while junior Joaquina Orlandini earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Richmond freshman Madi Hyatt was named Rookie of the Week. The awards, announced Monday and presented by Biosteel, are for games played Apr 5 - 11.

Miller, a back from Chester, Pa., netted her first career hat trick on Wednesday as the Hawks defeated La Salle, 6-1. She helped the Hawks to a season sweep of the Explorers with three goals in the game's first 17 minutes.

Orlandini was credited with six saves, including a pair of brilliant stops in the second OT period as Lock Haven knocked off No. 19 Saint Joseph’s in a shootout (W, 1-0; W shootout, 2-1). Lock Haven’s victory Saturday over Saint Joseph’s snapped a six-match losing streak to SJU and marked LHU’s first win over the Hawks since October 17, 2014 (W, 2-0). The Concordia, Argentina, product faced constant pressure throughout as the Hawks recorded 25 shots, with six on target.

Against Saint Louis, Hyatt had two first quarter goals to get the Spiders out to a quick lead. For the season, the forward from Fredericksburg, Va., is third on the team with seven points, on three goals and one assist in five starts her rookie spring season.
