NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Fordham senior Janos Loebe and St. Bonaventure senior Kosi Nwafornso claimed Atlantic 10 Conference Men’s Soccer Co-Offensive Player of the Week accolades and George Mason senior Clark Gronek took home Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Dayton freshman Elias Harryson was named Rookie of the Week. All three awards are for games played from Oct 22-28.
Loebe, a forward/midfielder from Kierspe, Germany, had his second career five-point game on Saturday in Fordham's 3-0 win over La Salle. He netted two goals and added an assist against the Explorers. Loebe has now set career-high this season in assists (11) and points (25) while tying his career-high in goals (7) He also moved into fourth on Fordham’s career points list and second in the A-10 for the season.
Nwafornso, a forward/midfielder from Abuja, Nigeria, scored two goals and added two assists, helping St. Bonaventure to a 2-0 week with wins over Howard and Duquesne. On Wednesday against Howard, Nwafornso netted the game-winning goal in the 72nd minute. He then assisted on the Bonnies’ second goal just one minute and three seconds later to secure the 2-0 victory. Against Duquesne Saturday, Nwafornso assisted on the first St. Bonaventure goal and later scored his second goal of the week and the game-tying goal in the 47th minute.
Gronek, a goalkeeper from Shaker Heights, Ohio, made five saves in a 1-0 victory over Davidson on Saturday night in Davidson, N.C. He posted his fourth shutout of the season, the most by a Patriots' keeper in one year since 2014. He faced 13 shots and made five saves - one shy of a career high. He made a diving save to his right with less than 10 minutes left to preserve the victory.
Harryson, a defender from Stockholm, Sweden, led Dayton to a 1-0 victory over A-10 leading VCU Saturday, guiding the Flyers to their seventh shutout of the season. He has led Dayton in minutes played and has been a key to the defensive success this season. The Flyers defense limited VCU to zero shots on goal.
