WASHINGTON — The Atlantic 10 Conference named Saint Joseph’s senior Matteo Mazzotta the Under Armour Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while Hawks graduate student Kobe Perlaza earned Defensive Player of the Week honors. Saint Louis freshman Nick Schramm was selected as the Rookie of the Week. The awards were announced on Monday for games played from Sep. 22-28.

Mazzotta, a midfielder from Rome, Italy, led the Hawks to a 2-0 record for the week by racking up three goals across two games. Mazzotta netted a penalty kick in Saint Joseph’s 3-1 win over Loyola Maryland on Tuesday, before scoring both goals for the Hawks in a 2-0 conference victory over Duquesne. The latter performance marked his first career brace, tying him for first in the A-10 with five goals this season.

Perlaza, a defender from Houston, Texas, anchored the Saint Joseph’s back line in a pair of strong showings. The Hawks held Loyola Maryland to one goal in the victory early in the week, before shutting down the Duquesne offense in the second win. The Dukes only mustered two shots on goal the entire afternoon, failing to find the net as Saint Joseph’s improved to 4-3-2 on the season.

Schramm, a midfielder from St. Louis, Mo., scored the game-winning goal in the Billikens’ 2-1 come-from-behind triumph against La Salle on Saturday. With the game tied 1-1 in the final 15 minutes of action, Schramm drilled a right-footed shot into the back of the net to secure a bounce-back victory.
